![]() Occasionally a fossil shows what kind of skin a dinosaur had. We also know that dinosaurs had the same basic body plan as modern birds, crocodiles and lizards. Rough patches on fossil bones sometimes show where the muscles attached. Step 2: Next come the musclesĪdding muscles helps give the dinosaur a more realistic shape. And if the left leg bones are missing, for example, a mirror image of the right leg is a good substitute. The more bones there are, the more accurate the reconstruction will be.Ĭomparing the skeletons of closely related dinosaurs can help fill in gaps. They fit the bones together in the right positions in their drawing with the help of dinosaur experts.Ĭomplete skeletons are rare, so it's like putting together a jigsaw that has missing and broken pieces. To work out what a dinosaur looked like, palaeoartists start with the fossils that have been found. Finish the bottom of the foot with another backwards 'C' and a horizontal line. For the back of the leg, draw a short 'C' at the top of the other side of the zigzag, then a wide 'C' down to the next corner of the zigzag. Follow the zigzag down to add the bottom part of the leg, and add toes at the rectangle.ħ. Add a small 'C' at the corner of the zigzag. Start by drawing a backwards 'C' inside the circle. Using the zigzag and rectangle as a guide, draw a leg and foot. Add a curvy mouth, with matching top and bottom lines.Ħ. For the head, use the rectangle as a guide but round the corners, add a bump above where the eye will be and leave a gap for the mouth.ĥ. Draw another curved line that slightly dips down the other side of the circle and then goes up towards the rectangle.Ĥ. Starting at the tip of the triangle, draw a slightly wavy line along one side of the triangle and up the circle. At the bottom add a small rectangle.ģ. Use the thicker pen to outline your T. In pencil, draw a triangle, a circle and a rectangle. rex's eye, draw a short, curved line for the thick brow.1. Below the tiny curved line, draw a tiny circle for the nostril. Inside the dinosaur's muzzle, near the top, draw a tiny curved line for the nose. Step 5: Under the mouth, draw a short, curved line for the chin. Curve the bottom of this line to the left a bit. Curve the line downward for the rest of the head. Pay attention to the distance from the eye to the top of the head. Step 4: Continue the line for the muzzle and stretch it to the right for the top of the cartoon dinosaur's head. From the top of this line, draw a short line that slopes to the top, right for the rest of the muzzle. From the left end of the mouth, draw a curved line upward for the front part of the muzzle. rex's mouth, draw a tiny, curved line for a smile line. Step 3: On the lower, left side of the eye, draw a sloping, curved line for the mouth. Draw a couple of highlights as tiny circles above and below the cartoon dinosaur's pupil. In the middle of the iris, draw a tiny circle and shade it in for the pupil. When you get the size and position of the iris right, darken the line. Step 2: Inside the eye, near the right side, lightly sketch a small circle for the iris. The shape should be like a circle that doesn't connect at the bottom. When you get the shape right, darken the line and make it thick for eyelashes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Step 1: Draw a curved line similar to a half-circle for the cartoon T. Take your time and draw at your own pace.įor the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil.
